Terms of Use

The terms that apply when you or your family use the Money Journey website, apps and related services.

Last updated: 3 October 2026

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Money Journey (“Money Journey”, “we”, “us”, or “our”), including our website, the Money Journey Parent and Money Journey Kids apps, and related services (together, the “Service”). The same Terms apply everywhere the Service is offered — on the web, on iOS through the App Store, and on Android through Google Play.

By creating an account, adding a child profile, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. What Money Journey Is

Money Journey is a learning and family money-tracking tool. It helps parents set up pocket money, challenges, goals and interest, and helps children learn about money through everyday activities and Learning Missions.

Money Journey does not move real money, and does not connect to a bank account or card. Amounts tracked in the Service — pocket money, wallet balances, interest, goals — are records kept inside Money Journey for learning and family-agreement purposes, not real transfers of funds between bank accounts. Any actual payment you make is for a Money Journey Premium subscription, handled entirely by Apple or Google as described in Section 5.

Nothing in the Service is financial, investment, tax or legal advice. Learning Missions use simplified, illustrative examples to teach concepts; they are not a substitute for professional advice about your own finances.

2. Accounts and Eligibility

The Money Journey Parent app is for parents and guardians. You must be an adult with legal authority to act as a parent or guardian for any child you add, and you are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide.

Children do not create their own accounts. A parent or guardian creates each child's profile from the Parent app and gives the child their sign-in details. By adding a child, you confirm that you are their parent or guardian and that you consent to their use of Money Journey Kids under these Terms.

You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure, and for all activity that happens under your account, including activity by children you have added.

3. Family Use and Parental Responsibility

Parents and guardians decide what challenges, rewards, goals and interest settings to configure, and are responsible for whether those arrangements are appropriate for their own family.

Money Journey Kids is designed to be used by a child together with, or under the supervision of, their parent or guardian. A parent remains responsible for supervising their child's use of the Service, including reviewing Mission content and any messages or requests a child sends through the app.

A Family in Money Journey may include more than one Guardian (for example, both parents, or another trusted adult invited to help). Each Guardian you invite can see and manage the same shared Family information as described in the app.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Service only for its intended purpose - helping a family track pocket money, chores, goals and learning. You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or in a way that infringes anyone else's rights.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to another family's account or data, or to Money Journey's systems.
  • Interfere with, disrupt, or attempt to reverse engineer the Service, except as permitted by law.
  • Use the Service to enter or request information you know to be false in a way intended to deceive another user (for example, misrepresenting a Reward Request or Money Request).
  • Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service without our written permission.

We may suspend or terminate access for an account that breaches these Terms, as described in Section 8.

5. Premium Subscriptions and Payment

Money Journey Kids is free, with no subscription, and has no purchase flow a child can reach.

Money Journey Parent offers an optional Premium subscription that unlocks additional features. New Guardians get a one-month free trial; Premium is optional after that.

Premium is purchased and billed entirely through the Apple App Store or Google Play, depending on which version of the app you use. This means:

  • The price and billing period shown at purchase (for example, a yearly subscription) is what you are charged for the current period, in the currency and amount your app store displays.
  • Unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, a subscription renews automatically, until you cancel.
  • We may change subscription prices from time to time. If a price increase applies to a subscription you already hold, Apple or Google will notify you in advance and ask you to accept the new price before it takes effect, under their own subscription price-change rules. If you don't agree to the new price, your subscription will not renew at the higher price.
  • You manage, cancel, or view the renewal date of your subscription in your Apple ID or Google Account subscription settings - not inside Money Journey.
  • Payments, refunds, and billing disputes are handled by Apple or Google under their own terms and policies. Money Journey does not receive or store your full payment card details, and cannot issue refunds on Apple's or Google's behalf.
  • If a promotional price or discount is offered, its terms (duration, eligibility) are shown at the time it is offered and apply only for that period.

Losing Premium (through cancellation or a lapsed payment) does not delete your data, but features that require Premium - such as Interest or Learning Missions beyond the free limit - stop working until Premium is restored.

6. Your Content and Data

You keep ownership of the information you and your family enter into Money Journey (names, goals, Mission answers, notes, and similar content). You give us permission to store and process that information in order to provide the Service to you, as described in our Privacy Policy.

You are responsible for the content you or your children enter into the Service, and for making sure you have the right to share any information you provide about a child.

7. Intellectual Property

The Money Journey name, logo, app design, Learning Mission content, and underlying software are owned by Money Journey or our licensors, and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. These Terms do not give you any right to use our branding or content outside of normal use of the Service.

8. Suspension and Termination

You can delete a child's profile, reset your account, or permanently delete your account at any time from within the app, as described in our Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you breach these Terms, misuse the Service, or where we reasonably believe it is necessary to protect Money Journey, other users, or children's safety. Where practical, we will try to give you notice first.

Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 6, 7, 9, 10 and 12) continue to apply after your account is closed.

9. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is”. We work to keep Money Journey accurate and available, but we do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times, or that Learning Mission content covers every situation a family may face.

To the extent permitted by law, we make no warranties, express or implied, about the Service beyond what is stated in these Terms or required by the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or other New Zealand law that cannot be excluded.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by law, Money Journey is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of the Service, including loss of data or loss arising from a family arrangement (such as a Challenge, Reward, or Interest setting) that one family member configured and another disagreed with - these are family decisions made using the tool, not decisions Money Journey makes for you.

Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under New Zealand law, including under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 where it applies.

11. Third-Party Services

The Service relies on third-party providers - including Apple, Google, and the infrastructure and communication providers described in our Privacy Policy - to operate. Your use of those providers' own services (such as purchasing through the App Store or Google Play) is also governed by their own terms.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time, for example as the Service changes or to reflect legal requirements. When we make a material change, we will update the “Last updated” date above. Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand, and any dispute relating to them or the Service will be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New Zealand.
